Cairns Underwater Film Festival
The 8th Annual Cairns Underwater Film Festival will be held at the Cairns Civic Theatre on the 23rd August 2014. Tickets available from Ticketlink.
Cairns Underwater Film Festival is a celebration of underwater photography and filmmaking. The festival combines The Great Barrier Reef Photo and Video competition with a film festival showcasing underwater imagery from around the world.
The Great Barrier Reef Photo and Video and competition is now closed for 2014 but will open again in May 2015.
In 2014 there was a massive prize pool worth over $70,000 including dive expeditions, camera equipment and much more. We are excited to welcome new major sponsors Beqa Adventure Divers, Fiji for a 7 day dive Bull shark package and to Nautilus Belle Amie, Soccoro Island, diving with the world’s largest Manta Rays. Please see full list of sponsors.
In 2013 the festival, which is run on a not-for-profit basis, donated 3 giant cheques at the Cairns Underwater Film Festival totalling $20,000 to our local marine charities: $7,500 to the Minke Whale Project, $7,500 to the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation and $5,000 to the Tangaroa Blue Foundation.
Run by a team of passionate volunteers the festival screens a combination of local and international talent, giving filmmakers a chance to showcase their talent in the only Australian festival of its kind. The Cairns Underwater Film Festival delights those who love to explore the underwater world, appreciate nature and have a passion for world-class imagery.
Cairns Underwater Film Festival are proud to announce the highly credentialed judging panel for the underwater photography competition of Stuart Ireland, Christian Miller and lead judge Juergen Freund.
